Among other things, generative AI and greater network security are being promoted. A digital earth model is also being expanded in order to simulate extreme weather events even more accurately.
The EU Commission wants to support digital technologies with 1.3 billion euros. The money will flow into areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services, cyber security and digital training from 2025 to 2027, the Brussels authority announced.
One focus is on generative AI. The money will be used to develop AI applications for the health and care sector, for example. The implementation of the new EU AI law and the development of shared, energy-efficient data rooms are also part of the funding.
Natural disasters to be predicted more accurately
Money is also flowing into a Europe-wide network of digital innovation centers (EDIHs), which are intended to help companies test new technologies. In practice, this could mean that companies test AI-supported programs for their business processes or administrations test digital solutions for citizen services.
The expansion of the “Destination Earth” digital copy of the Earth is also on the agenda. In future, the model should enable even more accurate predictions on climate change and natural disasters, for example by simulating extreme weather events.
Better protection for submarine cables
To strengthen cyber security, the EU Commission is planning, among other things, a reserve for rapid responses to cyber attacks. The aim is to better protect critical infrastructures such as hospitals and undersea cables.
