For years, Microsoft has kept the turnover of its Azure cloud platform a secret. Now the company has finally announced a figure.
After years of secrecy, Microsoft has made the turnover of its Azure cloud platform public. According to the report, it generated revenue of more than 75 billion dollars in the financial year just ended – an increase of 34 percent.
This confirms the assumption that Microsoft is the number two in the cloud business after Amazon. So far, the company has only stated the growth rates, but not the absolute sales figures.
Microsoft delivers computing power, storage and applications with artificial intelligence to its customers from the network via Azure. The current CEO Satya Nadella has consistently focused the Windows and Office group on the cloud business. For the current quarter alone, CFO Amy Hood announced capital investments of more than 30 billion dollars, a large proportion of which will go into data centers.
Accelerated growth
In the past quarter, the software giant grew even faster thanks to the high demand for products related to artificial intelligence and the cloud. In the three months to the end of June, turnover rose by 18 percent to just over 76 billion dollars (66 billion euros). Profit jumped by almost a quarter to 27 billion dollars.
Microsoft earned almost 102 billion dollars in the full year 2024/25. Turnover increased by 15 percent to 282 billion dollars. Revenue and profit significantly exceeded experts’ expectations. The share price rose by almost nine percent in US after-hours trading. If the share price were to rise by the same amount on Thursday, the stock would once again reach a record high and the market capitalization would exceed the four trillion dollar mark.
