Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced a cooperation with Elon Musk’s company xAI. The one-year partnership brings the AI chatbot Grok to Telegram’s more than one billion users and integrates the technology directly into the messaging platform.
According to Durov’s announcement, Telegram will receive 300 million US dollars in cash from xAI as part of the agreement. In addition, a revenue share of 50 percent of the xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram is planned. “Together we win!” commented the Telegram boss on the deal.
The integration marks Grok’s first major expansion outside of Musk’s X platform and gives the AI access to Telegram’s large user base of over one billion monthly active users.
The partnership comes at a time when Telegram is experiencing its best business performance. The company achieved an annual profit of 540 million US dollars for the first time in 2024 on sales of 1.4 billion dollars – a fourfold increase compared to the previous year.
