The provider of software solutions for project management Atlassian acquires the startup behind the Arc and Dia browsers. The acquisition is intended to lay the foundation for an AI-optimized workplace browser.
Atlassian has announced that it will acquire The Browser Company for 610 million US dollars. The startup develops the Arc and Dia browsers, which were specially designed to meet the requirements of modern knowledge workers.
Browser for the era of knowledge work
“Today’s browsers weren’t built for work, they were built for browsing,” Atlassian CEO and co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes said in a statement. “This acquisition is a bold step forward in redesigning the browser for knowledge work in the AI age.” A knowledge worker is a person whose professional activity is primarily based on processing, analyzing and applying information and knowledge.
The goal of the acquisition is to create an AI-powered browser that is optimized for the many SaaS applications that run in browser tabs – “one that knowledge workers will love to use every day,” Cannon-Brookes continued.
Independent operation planned
Josh Miller, CEO of The Browser Company, confirmed on Platform X that his company will operate independently under Atlassian and continue the development of Dia. Dia is the browser that the startup has been working on since last year, after discontinuing the development of its previous browser Arc.
Miller emphasized that the acquisition will allow The Browser Company to hire staff faster, develop features and support multiple platforms. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of Atlassian’s 2026 financial year.
