Microsoft has apologized for the confusion surrounding a Windows update error after the company falsely claimed to have fixed a critical firewall issue. In fact, the “Windows Firewall With Advanced Security 2042 None” issue was exacerbated by the update.

A supposed bug fix for Windows 11 24H2 has really spread the problem with false firewall warnings. Microsoft apologizes for the confusion.

After a failed Windows update, Microsoft feels compelled to apologize. The company had claimed to have fixed an annoying firewall error message in Windows 11 24H2 with the KB5062553 update. However, the update actually had the opposite effect and distributed the error to all users.

False firewall warning causes a stir

This affects users of Windows 11 24H2 who receive the message “Windows Firewall With Advanced Security 2042 None” as a critical error in the event logs. This warning suggests a serious security problem, although there is none.

The specialist magazine Windows Latest followed the development and found that the alleged fix did not solve the problem. Instead, the error occurred more frequently after the update. Dozens of users confirmed that the error message continued to appear.

Pure display problem without security risk

Microsoft finally admitted that it was a harmless programming error. The firewall functionality itself is not affected – only the logging has a defect. Users can therefore safely ignore the warning.

The company confirmed that the bug was caused by code changes in the latest Windows 11 24H2 updates. Only the event log entry is affected, not the actual firewall.
