The French telecommunications group Orange has been the victim of a cyber attack. The company discovered a compromised system last Friday and immediately isolated it from the rest of the network.
Orange, one of the world’s largest telecommunications providers, confirmed the incident in an official statement. Security experts from Orange Cyberdefense, the company’s cybersecurity division, discovered the compromise on July 25 and immediately initiated countermeasures. Orange serves 294 million customers in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, including 256 million mobile and 22 million fixed broadband customers. Operational disruptions in France
The necessary isolation measures led to disruptions to various services and management platforms. This mainly affects business customers and some consumer services in France.
“On Friday, July 25, the Orange Group detected a cyberattack on one of its information systems,” the company announced. “Alerted immediately and with the support of Orange Cyberdefense, the teams mobilized all their forces to isolate the potentially affected services and limit the impact.”
No evidence of data theft
According to the latest findings of the investigation, there is no evidence that customer data or company information has been stolen. Orange emphasizes that it remains vigilant with regard to possible data exfiltration. The company has informed the relevant authorities and filed a criminal complaint.
