A massive outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS) caused widespread disruptions to dozens of websites, banking services, and applications on Monday morning.
The incident, which began Monday morning, appears to stem from technical issues at Amazon Web Services (AWS). According to Downdetector over 5,000 reports of AWS failures were received from the United States alone.
AWS confirms elevated error rates
On its service status page, Amazon acknowledged experiencing “increased error rates” and delays across “multiple AWS services.” AWS is one of the world’s largest cloud computing providers and forms the infrastructure foundation for countless online services.
Overview of affected services
The outage impacted several banks, mobile networks, and the video conferencing platform Zoom. All Amazon-owned products, including Prime Video, Amazon Music, and the company’s main website, were also temporarily unavailable.
