Entrust: AI-powered security solution combats deepfakes and phishing attacks

Entrust announces the expansion of its portfolio: The Identity as a Service (IDaaS) platform will integrate identity verification and identity and access management into a single solution to combat deepfakes, phishing, account takeover attacks and other threats.

This is made possible by the recent acquisition of Onfido.

Urgent need for new solutions

In 2023, Onfido recorded an increase of 3000 deepfake attempts. The latest data from its Identity Fraud Report also show that digital forgeries accounted for 34.8% of document fraud detected by Onfido in the last six months – almost double the 16.7% in 2023 (and around 12 times as much as in 2021). These figures underline the urgent need for new, future-proof solutions for identity verification.

By extending its Identity as a Service (IDaaS) platform with Onfido’s AI-powered document and biometric verification, Entrust enables a significantly increased level of security in the authentication of identities. The IDaaS platform will be equipped with an additional security layer that resists identity fraud and phishing, secures digital interactions and protects sensitive information.

“With the merging of physical and digital credentials, identity has become a key security factor. The increasing danger from AI-driven threats, deepfakes, synthetic identities and ransomware is in turn leading to a growing need for reliable trust credentials,” explains Bhagwat Swaroop, President of Digital Security at Entrust. “Identity-centered security is the essential prerequisite for Zero Trust to work.”

With the new Identity as a Service (IDaaS) platform, companies can

  • Authenticate users securely and efficiently and validate their identities in real time to protect against fraud, phishing and other attacks during transactions
  • Use identity verification with biometrics seamlessly as step-up authentication for employees or customers
  • implement an unprecedented level of security through AI-driven facial biometrics and risk-based adaptive authentication
  • be one step ahead of the developing deepfakes and cheapfakes.
