OpenAI valued at $500 Billion

ChatGPT provider OpenAI is now worth half a trillion US dollars. This valuation can be derived from the current sale of employee shares to investors, as reported by Bloomberg news agency, citing sources familiar with the matter.

This represents an increase of around $200 billion compared to a financing round in April of this year. With this valuation, OpenAI once again leads the list of the world’s most valuable private companies. Currently ranked second, according to Bloomberg, is SpaceX, the aerospace company from US billionaire Elon Musk’s empire. SpaceX was most recently valued at around $350 billion during a share buyback.

As the creator of ChatGPT, OpenAI is the pioneer in text-based AI chatbots and also offers other AI tools, including those for automated image and video creation. Since the company is not publicly traded, access for investors is limited.

OpenAI operates in a fiercely competitive market that also includes major tech corporations such as Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Alibaba. Microsoft has notably invested in OpenAI. In addition, there are many smaller startups and numerous open-source AI systems that could pose competition to OpenAI.
