Elon Musk’s messaging platform X is struggling with extensive technical problems on Thursday morning. Users across multiple regions reported disruptions when attempting to access timelines and profiles.
On Thursday around 11:00 AM ET, outage tracking service Downdetector registered a sharp spike in error reports. In the United States, more than 16,000 users reported issues with the platform, while similar problems were simultaneously affecting users in other regions. At the peak of the disruption around 11:03 AM ET, Downdetector recorded approximately 18,600 error reports globally.
Error messages during page access
Affected users encountered a standardized error message when attempting to load their timeline or user profiles: “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” Both the web version and mobile app of X were impacted by the technical issues.
The outages occurred without prior warning and affected users across different time zones simultaneously. The problems appeared to be widespread, impacting core functionality that users rely on for accessing content and interacting with the platform.
No official statement on causes
X’s Developer Platform status page showed no reported incidents for August 14 at the time of the outage. The company had not initially issued any public statements regarding the technical problems, nor did X provide information about the underlying causes of the service disruption.
